The Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge on Highway 40 was built between 1962 and 1965 and is part of the Trans-Canada Highway. Averaging 86,000 vehicles a year, the 2 km-long structure crosses the Ottawa River, from Vaudreuil-Dorion to Senneville, connecting Quebec’s Montérégie and Montreal administrative regions. The Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge comprises 8 spans of reinforced concrete girders and 35 spans of prestressed concrete girders. EXP led the assessment and design work for the award-winning rehabilitation of this strategically important bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway, focusing on the strengthening of the bridge’s prestressed edge box girders. Extensive traffic control measures were implemented to keep both the bridge and the seaway open throughout the rehabilitation operations.
