US Route 6 is a highway that travels coast to coast across the United States. In Illinois, US 6 meets I-55, a major Midwest thoroughfare, in the Village of Channahon. To complete needed improvements, EXP provided construction engineering for three contracts for the widening and reconstruction of US 6. The improvements included widening and deck replacement for the US 6 bridge over I-55, reconstruction of three diamond interchange ramps, rehabilitation of the fourth interchange ramp and the relocation of adjacent frontage roads to new alignments. The improvements were focused on alleviating congestion and structural deficiencies, and supporting the Village’s growing infrastructure needs. Additional improvements encompassed an underpass, roadway and tower lighting, temporary and modernized traffic signals, ITS maintenance and improvements, enclosed drainage system, signage, multi-use path and landscaping.
